Spencer Hawes is broken. He is shooting under 40% this year, just like he did last year with the Clippers. He has historically been an okay offensive player, so why is he regressing so badly right when he’s supposed to be entering his prime? Does he really need to be a full-time 30-MPG starter to be effective? Or does he just suck now?
Part of it could be that the form on his jumper is borked in a really bad way. He’s always had a funny-looking release but I don’t think it’s always been this bad. He’s got this wind-up that takes forever and gives his defender a long time to close out. Then he shoots it super flat.
Or it could be the man-bun. I personally think it looks cool but maybe it weighs down his head too much for him to get proper lift on his shots. If I watched Game of Thrones I could probably compare him to one of the burly hairy dudes on that show but I don’t, so I can’t. Somebody else is going to have to step up to the plate on this one.
