The Knicks are a prime example of why the “big market effect” in the NBA is not all it’s made out to be. Yeah, they benefit a lot from a large and consistent fanbase, but management still has to put together a decent team, otherwise free agents won’t want to come despite the cultural amenities. If I were a free agent (I guess I technically am), I wouldn’t want to go to the Knicks. Actually, yes I would. There’s only one NBA player who I could take minutes from, and that player’s name is Travis Wear.
The Knicks aren’t quite as bad as they seem; according to Pythagoreas they should have about 3 more wins, which would put them as the 25th best team in the league. 25th best is pretty good!
Jose Calderon would help things if he was playing consistent minutes. He’s not the dude he once was, though his stint in Dallas was pretty good. He can still shoot, he can still pass, and that combo is almost totally absent from the current Knickerbocker roster. Yes, I think Carmelo Anthony can pass. If you are not willing to deal with then you can kindly exit the room.
