If I’m Carmelo Anthony, I’m freaking out right now. In only a month, the Knicks have gone from “Melo’s Team” to “Kristaps Kristaps OMG Porzingod WOW WOW WOW Latvia’s Team”. Put another way, there are still lots and lots of people who remain unhyped about Carmelo. There are no such people when it comes to Kristaps Porzingis.
Now, when a major network is showcasing an upcoming game involving the Knicks, the designated “player standing next to the logo of his team holding a ball and looking angry” is no longer Carmelo, it’s Kristaps. It will take a while for the local networks to catch on, but you can bet that a few weeks from now they will say stuff like “And on Tuesday, they take on Kristaps Porzingis and the Knicks here at the BMO Harris Bradley Center, so be sure to buy your tickets now!”.
Carmelo makes a point of cheering and clapping when Kristaps does something good. But you can see in his eyes that he’s a broken man. New York used to be his city.
