When I saw that Jahlil Okafor had 17 points in the first quarter, the first thing I thought was “Wilt’s record is SCREWED!”. I started playing it out in my head:
94, 96, 98… Jahlil cannot be stopped, the crowd is delirious, he scores bucket after bucket, jumpers, hooks, slams, his teammates feeding him on every possession, but there’s only 3 seconds left! He takes the ball in his big right hand and jams it into the basket! 100! Pandemonium reigns, the ushers are holding back the crowd now desperate to storm the court, and, in the confusion, Jahlil steals the inbound pass and tomahawks it right through the net and onto Meyers Leonard’s pouting face as time expires! 102, Wilt’s record is broken! The crowd, no longer able to be contained, floods onto the court, having witnessed the greatest scoring performance in NBA history. Jahlil, threatened by the sudden influx of fans reaching out for him, starts throwing haymakers, flattening a dozen revelers before being swept off the court on his adoring teammates’ shoulders…
Then he went and only scored 8 more points the rest of the game.
