Marcelo “Hurt Ass” Huertas has been playing pretty good the last few weeks. There’s just one question: does he play with savvy, or does he play with hustle? One’s play style cannot incorporate both savvy and hustle. It has to be one or the other, or neither in the case of Andrew Bynum.
Huertas is 32, so one would automatically assume that he’s playing with savvy. Not just any kind of savvy either. A special kind of savvy. A vet kind of savvy. It is possible to possess vet savvy while not actually being a veteran of the NBA. Perhaps Huertas possesses this special kind of savvy and uses it to craftily score points and dime his teammates.
However, if you watch his games, he’s always playing hard. But playing hard is not the same as hustle. Matthew Dellavedova plays with hustle. Somebody like LeBron, who plays hard, does not play with hustle. It is unclear to me which category Huertas falls under. If he dove for more loose balls, I would be surer in my judgement.
For now, I’m going to say that Marcelinho’s game is loaded with savvy. Not bad for a simple creature with humble beginnings in the Shire.
