It’s a good thing that commentators told us all about it, or I would never have noticed that this is the first time in Al-Farouq Aminu’s illustrious career that he has had back-to-back games of 20 points or more. I definitely realized that he had the back-to-back 20-burgers, duh, because I made highlights of both of them. And if I had thought about it, maybe I would’ve been like, “has that ever happened before” but I would’ve probably thought that it did, maybe in his first year in Portland. But I would’ve been wrong.
As a blast from the past, check out what I wrote right after he scored 17 back in 2012: “Notorious bust Al-Farouq Aminu is unbusting himself early in the season, scoring seventeen points in the opener and putting up fifteen points last night, including one seismic putback slam which left the Jazz stunned. Maybe a ton of minutes on a crappy team is just what the doctor ordered for the third-year forward.”
I haven’t been using the adjective “seismic” enough lately. And “Notorious bust”? Hoo boy, I was a harsh critic back then. But that description gives evidence that I was at least aware of him scoring 15 and then 17 in consecutive games. Which is almost as good as 20 and then 20 again, really. Only 8 points short.
