The demise of the Rockets continues apace as a previously-struggling Luka Doncic scores 11 straight points near the end of the fourth quarter to put the Mavericks over the top.
If I was a normal person who hadn’t boxed himself into a corner by writing more and more outlandish descriptions for NBA highlight videos on YouTube, that would be the end of the description right there. Succinct, to the point, lays out the facts simply and without additional hamfisted commentary. Lucky for you guys, I have some deep-seated emotional issues that necessitate acquiring praise from idiots in the YouTube comments, and the only way I can get that praise is by spewing half-butted opinions.
So here you go: Doncic is an MVP candidate this year. Not next year, or maybe in the future, but right now. His arrival (not DeAndre Jordan’s) has caused the assumed-to-be-tanking Mavericks to rocket up the standings, he’s averaging 20 points per game, and he’s white. Those are all some serious arguments for why he should at least be considered for the MVP award. I’m not saying he should win it (but he should), just saying that he has a nice resume.
Part of being MVP is having highlight-reel moments that capture the public’s imagination. That’s what he did tonight. So add another thing to his resume.
