Let’s just say it: Richaun “Rich Holmie Chaun” Holmes was being marginalized to hell and back in his last season with the 76ers. Brett Brown AKA “Butt Clown” has a reputation for doing this to players. His excuse would be that Joel Embiid AKA JoeL Embad was deserving of all the center minutes, but Holmes clearly deserved more minutes than he got. I mean, the dude was getting DNP’s and then he got traded for cash. Straight up cash so that the Sixers could replace the copy machine in their front office.
Think of it this way: Holmes has been very effective in Phoenix despite having to play with an…ahem…underwhelming cast of point guards. Even mediocre point guards find it very easy to get assists when they pass Holmes the ball. The Simmons-Holmes combination could have been sick in terms of amount of dunks generated, maybe as sick as the Andre Miller-JaVale McGee combination in Denver a few years ago.
It does no good to dwell on the past. Whatever success Holmes might have found in Philadelphia, there’s nothing there for him anymore. Now the Rich Holmie can play for a coach who doesn’t marginalize him and gives him every chance in the world to steal minutes away from Deandre Ayton.
