I would like to remind everyone that this is the same Rudy Gay (not some sort of impostor) who, while in the midst of a big shooting slump, BANNED boxscores from the Raptors locker room. I don’t know how he enforced the ban, like if he had rookies acting as contraband agents, but the ban happened and it was very funny. Then he got traded and the Raptors magically became a good team that just kept getting better and now they’re Finals contenders. All without Gay.
He has rehabilitated his image a little bit with the Spurs, because everyone just assumes that if Popovich lets a player play for him, that player must be good. Look what happened with Stephen Jackson. That dude was the definition of a lazy team-cancer chucker, but people seem to remember him as being good for the Spurs. Gay obviously isn’t that bad, but he seems to be the same player he always has been.
Except way more efficient, which I think is a mirage. We are almost a third of the way through the season though, so maybe he really has turned a little bit of a corner under Popovich. If he’s still shooting almost 50 percent from three by the All-Star break, I’ll admit I was wrong.
