I am still upset over being so thoroughly fooled by Cedi Osman’s first two games this season of 17 and 22 points. I was convinced he had turned some sort of corner, turned into some sort of second option behind Kevin Love, and that we were seeing a Turkish legend being born right before our eyes. He’s had a few games since then that were up to that high level, but the season stats don’t lie: he’s shooting 36 percent from the field as a small forward.
Luckily, he’s still young… you’re telling me he’s already 23? Oh man. That’s not super old, but if you’re still an ineffective player at 23, you can just forget about being an All-Star. I don’t if people were thinking he could be an All-Star, but if you were, you can just forget about it. Be content with the one Mehmet Okur All-Star appearance that he somehow achieved.
I’m exaggerating a little bit. For real though, Osman can do some good things. When he has good games, there’s a lot to be excited about, and when he has bad games, you can chalk it up to inexperience and maybe too much youthful exuberance. I swear he gets himself into trouble five times a game by just trying to do too much.
