When people were talking about the locker room issues that the Wizards were having, which involved Beal and Wall punching each other, half the players on the roster being embroiled in unconfirmed trades, and Scott Brooks wailing “I thought we were going to sign Kevin Durant” while crying, I feel like they were ignoring one of the biggest causes of locker room strife in DC: Jeff Green’s debilitating addiction to benzos.
You can just so easily tell that he’s addicted to those things. He’s always sleepy-looking and slow. Nothing excites him. He’s in a permanent state of emotionless emptiness. And his benzo addiction is tearing apart the locker room.
Multiple Wizards players have confided in me that Green spends most of his time finding a source for his next fix. He has repeatedly tried to pawn off teammate’s personal possessions for cash in order to buy more benzos. They don’t know what becomes of his game checks, but they speculate that he’s being taken advantage of by his dealers, who know they can charge him anything they want for his precious drugs. Benzos and benzo paraphernalia litter his locker.
Jeff Green is addicted to benzos. It is so obvious.
