Hawks commentator Dominique Wilkins implored his team to get John Collins the ball more a bunch of times just in the parts of the game that are shown in the video. I wonder how many more times he said it that we missed. Probably every possession where Collins didn’t touch the rock. I would guess that the Nets were employing strategies to limit the damage Collins was doing (something called “defense”, perhaps), but when the commentator says to get a player some more touches, you get them more touches. Especially when it’s a HOFer like Wilkins.
The amount of times Wilkins said something like “The Nets just CANNOT STOP John Collins right now” was way too low, on the other hand, for how thorough the interior domination was.
This is not the most exciting vid for Collins that the world has ever seen. He dunked it a few times, but other than that it’s nothing but non-dunk paint finishes. Layups and layup-like things. With Collins, you want dunks, and you want threes. Dewayne Dedmon was doing the three-shooting (video coming soon) which explains the lack for Collins, but even a few heaves from deep could’ve put him up close to 40.
And then you add some more dunks and maybe some midrange pops and you’re close to 50. Don’t you feel robbed, like someone took something that you should’ve rightfully had right out of your hands?
