Myles Turner has had three twenty-point games in his past four outings after not scoring above that mark even once at any point during the rest of the season. His field goal attempts are also way up.
Somebody must have told him, “Myles, it’s nice that you want to defer to your teammates, but you’re a seven-footer with a sweet shooting stroke so you’d better start taking some god damn shots!” As a young player, hearing those words from a trusted veteran would definitely awaken with him a renewed desire to score the rock.
It’s also possible that his teammates were freezing him out of the offense due to some locker-room transgression that he has only just now atoned for. I don’t watch enough Pacers games to know whether this is true or not, but I can totally imagine Myles bragging about a hot cougar he took home from the bar only to have it turn out to be Bojan Bogdanovic’s mom. Actually, that’s the kind of thing that would force the team to trade you so maybe it was tamer than that. Maybe he punched Thad Young after a card game bet gone awry.
In any case, Turner is a talented scorer and he’s finally realized it. Let’s hope he doesn’t do another stupid thing and get himself frozen out of the offense again.
