Just putting it out there: I am not salty at all over the fact that Mario “Crobe” Hezonja dunked “on” Giannis Antetokounmpo and then, on his way back up the court, stepped over his vanquished foe’s dunked-on body laying prone on the hardwood. It’s easy to say that he’s not good enough to do stuff like that, but I disagree. If you’re a role-player/scrub, and you get the best of a superstar in a big way, you get to have your moment in the sun. Taunting technicals are totally worth it (not like Hezonja even got one). We haven’t seen choreographed dance routines like in the NFL, but I don’t think many people would say no to them.
It would be a fun narrative if Hezonja had gotten way worse after “The Dunk”, implying some sort of universal karmic retribution. He’s been bad, true, but he was bad for a few games beforehand anyway. The days of him getting double figures in the scoring column all the time are over; now he gets to pad his stats in blowouts but only get meager minutes while games are still in doubt.
He got in some really nice statpadding in this game, countering the boos raining down on him with a bunch of buckets that had the crowd cheering a little bit. Losing to the Suns has got to be a low point for the Knicks, but at least Hezonja got his 14 points to ease the pain. Yeah, you’re right, that probably doesn’t ease any pain at all for anybody except for Hezonja himself.
