I was going into this description preparing to say something about how when Ricky Rubio has a good game the Jazz usually win, but just take a glance and his game log from this seasons seems to indicate that that is not the case. Dammit! I had a narrative all ready to go, and that narrative was that the Jazz go as Rubio goes, and also that Mitchell is useless and horrible and should be traded to the Bucks for Thon Maker. Now that narrative is ruined, killed before it even got started.
Rubio had a good scoring game tonight, and the Jazz won in blowout fashion, which is obviously why I had my narrative in mind. But as usual with his good scoring games, nothing about it feels sustainable. His scoring is inconsistent, sometimes he hits the tough shots that he loves taking, sometimes he doesn’t. That sentence applies to every NBA player ever, but for Rubio there really isn’t such a thing as an “easy shot”. Unless free-throws count as shots. He’s good at those.
