Justise Winslow 21 Points Full Highlights (12/26/2018)

Erik Spoelstra has come out and said directly that, with Goran Dragic out for a significant amount of time with an injury, Justise Winslow is the point guard. He actually used the words “point guard”. He didn’t dance around the issue. He just straight-up said it.

Due to past experiences with coaches saying that a forward is the point guard (Jason Kidd said it about Giannis and he was mostly lying), I’m naturally a bit skeptical of Spoelstra’s claims. But those claims are bolstered by the fact that there literally isn’t a backup point guard on the roster, so there’s two options here: you play Winslow has the point guard, or you don’t play with a point guard at all. There is a third option, which is to play Tyler Johnson as a point guard, but Johnson hasn’t shown as much in the ball-distrubtion department as Winslow has, so it was an easy choice from a coaching perspective.

I feel like the real solution here is to trade for a stopgap PG until Dragic gets back (is D.J. Augustin available? He loves getting traded mid-season), but it’s also worthwhile to develop Winslow into a better playmaker if you feel like he has that ability within him.
