Pictured: Collin Sexton reacting to the news that Matthew Dellavedova got traded back to the Cavaliers and now he’s going to lose his starting job.
Not Pictured: Dellavedova scoring 29, because that’s never happened and never will happen until he does a really sad retirement tour in the Aussie NBL.
Sexton had a bit of a rough start, so rough that his own team’s vets anonymously called him out to the media, but he’s really killing it now. Sure, there are parts of basketball called “defense” and “winning”, but can you really expect a rookie shot-chucker to care about those things? No. His job is to shoot midrange jumpers at an insane rate and sometimes set up his teammates if the midrange jumper isn’t there.
He is also allowed to shoot other types of shots, and maybe I overstated the “setting up teammates” part. He doesn’t really want to do that. He wants to score, which is great, because I want him to score too.
Maybe he and Dellavedova can work together on the court. Dellavedova can be the savvy, scrappy, hard-nosed defender who can throw lobs to Tristan Thompson, and Sexton can do all the scoring and throw lobs to Larry Nance. Man, this is sounding really good to me right now. Sextadova in the house!
