New goal for Derrick Rose: to average more points than he did in his second year in the league. He was at 20.8 that season, good enough for an All-Star selection at 21 years old. Right now he’s at 18.7, which is great for how he’s looked the last couple years, but I feel like it could be a fair bit higher.
The easiest thing to do to get more points is for him to tell Tom Thibodeau that he needs to play more minutes. That’s so easy. Thibs is probably DYING to play him 45 minutes per game but doesn’t because of what the “doctors” and “experts” and “specialists” told him about “wear and tear” and “reaggravation”. But all Rose needs to do is set up a meeting and tell him that all his ligaments feel fine and he can play as many minutes as needed.
If he does that, he can also help his case by shooting way more threes. Yeah, his elite 48 percent from downtown would go down pretty quick, but there’s no easier way in the NBA to get lots of points in a short amount of time than by spamming triples. And, I know I’ve probably said this before, but he’s so good at them right now that he’s hurting the team every possession he DOESN’T shoot one. So not only would he score hella points, it would probably lead to hella wins.
Do people even say “hella” anymore?
