The jubilation that the Nets commentators should have had for Joe Harris and his game-winner was ruined by whoever the clock operator is for the Brooklyn Nets. I don’t know if they’re a league employee or a team employee, so I don’t know who gets to mete out the punishment, but one thing I do know is that they probably feel really bad right now.
What should’ve happened was that Harris gets his layup with four seconds left, the Hornets dribble wildly up the court, and instead of the shot-clock buzzer going off, Kemba Walker takes a crappy shot before the final buzzer that misses. Then everyone in the arena freaks out, the commentators start yelling incoherently into their mics, and Harris is escorted off the court on the backs of his teammates in a makeshift sedan made out of empty Gatorade bottles, mops borrowed from the mop boys, and spare towels.
Instead, everyone stood around looking confused while the refs tried to figure out what they should do. Harris was robbed of the greatest moment of his career, and I tried to make this highlight video to give him back some of that pilfered glory, but it only kinda worked. It’s a good video, and it has a lot of clutch Harris buckets (he was clutch basically every time there was a chance for him to be clutch tonight), but the ending really dampens the excitement of the whole thing.
Whose idea was it to have Malik Monk handle the final possession for the Hornets anyway? This whole thing could’ve been avoided if they had just used Kemba Walker like a normal team would.
