Is there any way the Timberwolves can just make Andrew Wiggins… disappear? Not like, kill him or anything, but just make it so the universe assigned him to be an accountant rather than an NBA player? He can even be an accountant for the Timberwolves if he wants. All those missed free throws in overtime really hurt my soul.
If the Timberwolves FO is doubting, just look at what happened in Milwaukee after they got rid of Jabari Parker.
Besides, Minnesota has Robert “Big Shot Bob” Covington ready to step right in should Wiggins go away forever. He’s not the same type of player, not at all, and that’s a good thing. He plays defense! If you don’t believe me, just look at ESPN’s RAPM which somehow paints him as one of the most impactful defenders in the league, year in, year out. But you shouldn’t really be questioning that fact. Everyone knows that he’s one of the sickest 3-and-D dudes in the league, even if his extraordinarily-pretty jumper doesn’t go in nearly as often as it seems like it should.
Just mentioning the term “3-and-D dude” is making me nostalgic for the period of NBA history where it seemed like every team wanted as many of those players as possible. That was just a few years ago; where did they all go? Are they all still around but now there’s so many of them that they don’t warrant a special designation?
