Is it legal for Derrick Rose to win the Most Improved Player award? Everyone keeps talking about his Sixth Man of the Year candidacy, and he’s definitely in the running for that, but that one wouldn’t have as much impact as him winning MIP would. I shouldn’t have to remind people, but he went from being out of the league to averaging 19 points per game in one year. That’s a pretty big improvement.
I’m looking at the rules right now and there’s nothing that says anything about former MVPs not being able to win MIP. I haven’t read the whole thing yet, but I’ve read most of the relevant sections and I don’t think I will find anything in the section about how to call the defensive three seconds violation.
I found it funny that one of the Timberwolves’ commentators said “If you’re just watching the Timberwolves for the first time… Derrick Rose is for real.”, like there isn’t a single NBA fan on the planet who isn’t aware that he scored 50 points already this season. He’s one of the hottest stories of the season, everyone who was hating on him has shut up and all his loyal followers are basking in his godly glow. Am I wrong in sensing that an All-Star berth is coming his way?
