I know I’ve talked a lot of crap about D’Angelo Russell in the past, but when he’s smoothly hitting shot after shot from everywhere on the court, I can feel my position on him softening a little bit. And I hate that feeling.
The entire point of having opinions is for them to be right. This is a personal conviction of mine. All of my opinions are facts. So when my opinions are confronted with contrary facts, it’s a real moment of cognitive dissonance for me. I was feeling that way when making this highlight video. As you will see when you watch the video (or as you have already seen if you watch the video before reading the description), Russell was able to constantly use screens to get himself open for midrange jimbos that were smoother than an expertly-crafted milkshake. This goes against my pre-existing notion that Russell is only a one-dimensional scorer, and not even a good one at that. How could a bad player look so good right in front of my eyes?
From now on, I will not upload videos that go against my ideas about what a player should play like and how good he is. I refuse to disseminate videographic evidence that my opinions might be even slightly off-base, much less entirely incorrect. My reputation as the ultimate arbiter of all NBA knowledge is on the line here.
