JaVale McGee 19 Points/3 Blocks Full Highlights (12/15/2018)

This game was a never-ending highlight reel for the Lakers. An enterprising highlight compiler (which excludes me) would simply upload this game in its entirety (minus the free-throws) with a title like “SHOWTIME LAKERS FULL HIGHLIGHTS VS HORNETS! LEBRON AND ZO TRIP-DUBS!” and watch the views roll in. It seemed like the Lakers were scoring every possession, and they were scoring with their exciting players, the Mykhailiuks and the McGees and the Balls and the Bongas. It’s a good thing there was no Brandon Ingram, because his slow dopey-ness would’ve just dragged the whole experience down to his dopey level.

JaVale McGee is a walking highlight machine, we know that already. He doesn’t do stuff in a normal, boring way. Everything he does, he does with EXCITEMENT and ENERGY. Sometimes that excitement and energy is misplaced, leading to the gaffes we see replayed on Shaqtin’, but those are the plays you live with when he’s dunking the ball every other possession and making Cody Zeller look even more like a geratric old man than he already does.

The arrival of Tyson Chandler has cut into his playing time a little bit, which upsets me a bit. Chandler is fine, but he isn’t SHOWTIME. McGee is the essence of SHOWTIME. Maybe Chandler plays winning basketball more consistently, and he can catch lobs pretty good, but can he flip a shot over his shoulder while falling away from the rim without it even being too abnormal of an occurrence?
