Two triple-doubles in the same game from the same team. Lonzo Ball and JaBroni Lames. 16-10-10 and whatever garbage statpadded numbers JaBroni put up. It may sound impressive, because the last time a pair of Lakers did this was way back when Kareem and Magic were running the showtime Lakers. But I think it was just a matter of time that this happened, and I think that they can go even further.
Remember, Rajon Rondo is on this team as well. He’s injured, but he likes to get triple-doubles too, when he’s healthy. He can go and get one on any given night, as long as he makes a concerted and diligent effort to score the 10 points required. Why can’t the Lakers have three people get a triple-double in the same game?
But wait! We almost forgot about Lance Stephenson! He led the ENTIRE LEAGUE in triple-doubles one of those seasons back when he was with the Pacers. He doesn’t get them as much any more, but that’s because his role has been reduced. Give him the minutes, and you know he’ll do his Lance Magic and start racking up some serious stats. Four players getting a triple-double in a single game for the same team, it may sound crazy. But how crazy is it, really?
Now hold on a second. JUST HOLD ON A GOD DAMN SECOND. JaVale McGee! He gets triple-doubles without even needing the ball in his hands. He can block 10 shots like it’s nothing. His conditioning is fine now, the whole asthma thing was way overstated, if you just park him in the paint and let the shots come to him, he’ll block them. No problem. So now we have five triple-doubles by all five Lakers starters (because they’re all gonna have to start for this to work), and I don’t think this is out of the realm of possibility at all.
