This was a great chance for Harry Giles to show his stuff. With the Kings getting their butt kicked hard right from the get-go, and with Dave Joerger making a point to the starters (I don’t know what kind of point, but it was definitely something) by benching them for the vast majority of the game, that meant that Giles got a ton of real minutes to see what he could do.
Sidenote: I am disappointed that Skal Labissiere, another beneficiary of Joerger’s weird rotations tonight, only managed 9 points in 28 minutes. I never get a chance to talk about this guy because he never scores points anymore, but I just want to say that I still believe in him and would absolutely 100 percent trade Thon Maker for him straight up.
But back to Giles. He did some stuff! We know he can do stuff, but it’s still nice to see him do a bunch all at one time instead of little bits scattered here and there. These buckets are nice. No lame gimme dunks set up by his teammates, what we have here are long jumpers and fancy post moves. Sound like anyone else on the Kings? Yeah, it’s Skal again. I haven’t seen a ton of Giles yet, but let’s go with as a comp “Labissiere with surprising passing ability”. Does that sound good to everyone? If not, leave your own suggestions in the comments, and you have to be serious, I don’t want any of you fartnuggets saying stuff like “Brian Scalabrine” or “Allen Iverson” or some other meme player.
