Bryn Forbes is averaging 12 points per game for the San Antonio Spurs after going undrafted a few years ago. If something like this was happening while the Spurs were winning all those championships, we would never hear the end of it, about how good the Spurs were at scouting international talent (because let’s face it, Forbes kinda looks like a Euro) and how great their system is and how well they extract value from unexpected sources and blah blah blah. But now we’re in the first year of what may be a long stretch of relative Spurs irrelevance, and Forbes’ accomplishments are going largely unnoticed.
Well, I’M noticing, but only because I watch him play so I can imagine that he’s Rashad Vaughn scoring this many points for the Bucks. I will never give hope on that man, even if he goes down to the G-League and sucks there too (which is what’s happening). Maybe the Spurs can give him a shot? See if Popovich can work his (probably nonexistent) magic one more time?
We’re still waiting on Forbes to match or surpass his insane rookie-year 27 point outburst, but these seven assists do tie a career high. But seriously, if he’s going to live up to his “Undrafted Curry” nickname, he’s going to have to start scoring a little bit more. These kind of minutes might never come his way again, you never know with a player like him. Situations can change in an instant.
