Marvin Williams is only 32 years old, how messed up is that? He’s been a low-usage role-players for almost a whole decade now, and if he can continue shooting the three-ball well, he can be a low-usage role-player for another decade. At the very least, him playing 20 seasons is something that can definitely happen since he’s already at 14. Damn. 20 seasons of W-Marv. How nuts would that be? This whole sitch is really freaking me out right now.
Sure, he could suffer an injury that robs him of his last remaining shreds of athleticism (though he was postering people hard as recently as two or three years ago), but he’s not really playing the type of game that induces injuries. And, as I said, if he can just keep splashing triples, there will be a team always waiting to give him at least the vet min. Hopefully it’s not the Bucks.
This is the kind of game that makes me optimistic about his future. He might not have any fans, and maybe no one outside of Charlotte (and Detroit, after tonight) realizes he’s even still in the league, but he can still hit threes. Seven of them, in fact, the most he’s ever hit. That was a surprising fact, but he’s not ever been a volume shooter kind of guy. And I don’t think I want him to be. Seeing him chuck like Gerald Green would be too much for me to handle.
