Everyone gives OKC crap for trading away James Harden in his prime, trading away Serge Ibaka in his prime, not retaining Royal Ivey after signing him to a 10-day contract, letting Caron Butler walk, but no one ever talks about how they messed up by trading Jeremy Lamb for frickin’ LUKE RIDNOUR (who they then traded for some made-up dude named Tomislav Zubcic) and a second round pick (that they then bundled in a package for RANDY FOYE). Like, what the heck was the point? Why not just let Jeremy Lamb develop instead of trying to outsmart everyone by trading him for an ancient melanin-lacking scrub?
It probably made sense at the time, there were probably reasons involving the luxury tax or something, but those reasons are lost to the unyielding screaming gale-winds of time (that rip asunder every cherished memory into scraps of loose consciousness), and now Lamb is scoring 15 points per game, 15 points that the Thunder could definitely use. Not like they’re hurting for wins or anything, but a scorer off the bench like Lamb could help many playoff teams.
Playoff teams like… the Hornets? Maybe! If they could win close games they’d probably have the best record in their conference, but they can’t. Even with Lamb coming one short of a career-high in points by scoring 31. I was criticizing the Thunder for trading him, but maybe the Hornets need to do the same. Get this guy off the team that somehow got cursed to be stuck in 8th/9th seed hell for eternity.
