We take a break from our regularly scheduled “Kelly Oubre hates Klay Thompson” storyline to present a fun fact: the Wizards, widely mocked as one of the worst teams in the league, are on a two-game winning streak! Last time I checked, bad teams don’t go on winning streams because they don’t win games, so I guess all you haters saying stuff like “John Wall’s contract is going to be so ridiculous” and “Dwight Howard is a franchise-killer” and “Kelly Oubre isn’t even that good looking” can go and retreat back to your places under the bridge.
Here’s another fun fact, maybe not so fun: Oubre is only averaging 1 assist per 36 minutes this season. No one told me that he’s channelling the spirit of Wizards-era Nick Young and would rather shoot a ton of threes at a low percentage than find a teammate. Well, I kind of knew that, but I didn’t know it was so bad. I guess when you’re playing a lot of minutes with John Wall, he’s the one doing the passing, and you’re doing the shooting.
It worked, tonight. Despite being sub-30 percent from deep this year, he went 5 of 6 including making the first five, a sight for sore eyes for Wizards fans. If there are any left. Honestly, if it were me, I would’ve gone into hibernation and awoken only to see if we had Zion Williamson yet. There’s only so much team dysfunction one man can take, and the Wizards have long passed my person threshold.
